Common Symptoms After a Concussion
Concussions can disrupt the balance between sympathetic (“fight or flight”) and parasympathetic (“rest and repair”) systems. Acupuncture supports autonomic regulation, helping calm overactivation and improve recovery conditions.
After a head injury, inflammatory signaling can persist beyond the initial trauma. Acupuncture may help modulate inflammatory pathways involved in post-concussion symptoms.

Healthy blood flow is critical for brain recovery. Acupuncture has been shown to influence microcirculation, supporting oxygen and nutrient delivery during healing.
Cervical tension often contributes to post-traumatic headaches and dizziness. Acupuncture helps reduce muscular guarding in the neck and upper back that can perpetuate symptoms.
The acupuncture and the stretches Brian had me do eliminate all the pain from my lower back from a car accident I had, highly recommended
Dr. Brian Duncan is an experienced acupuncturist that has helped me alleviate my chronic back pain. I am so incredibly grateful .
Really helped with my knee pain. I've been getting acupuncture for years and was new to the area. Decided to give this place a try and so glad I did. They definitely know what they're doing. Highly recommend.
I have had cupping, acupuncture and Chinese herbs all have made an incredible difference in reducing my pain and allowing me to become physically active again. Highly recommend going to him!!
Your first visit begins with a thorough discussion of your low back pain history, daily activities, injury patterns, and movement limitations. We assess posture, mobility, and contributing factors to identify the root drivers of your pain — not just the location of symptoms.
Very fine, sterile needles are placed at carefully selected points based on your specific pain pattern and examination findings. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during insertion and are often surprised at how gentle the process feels.

After placement, you’ll rest comfortably for approximately 15–20 minutes. This allows your nervous system to shift into a relaxed state while the treatment works to reduce tension and calm pain signaling. Many patients describe this portion as deeply calming.
Before you leave, we’ll review what was found, how your body responded, and outline a clear treatment plan. This includes recommended frequency, expected progress timeline, and practical guidance to support recovery between visits.
Yes, acupuncture is a safe treatment when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner like Dr. Brian Duncan. The needles used are sterile, single-use, and disposable. Side effects are minimal and may include slight bruising or soreness at the needle site, which typically resolves quickly.
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, much finer than those used for injections. Most people feel very little pain when the needles are inserted. Some patients may experience a mild tingling sensation or a feeling of warmth as the body’s energy adjusts. Most patients find acupuncture to be a relaxing experience.
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area.
At Kingsport Acupuncture, we are a direct-pay practice, which means we do not bill health insurance companies directly. This allows us to provide the best possible care for our patients without the restrictions and limitations that often come with insurance coverage. However, we do offer Super Bills, which are detailed receipts that patients can submit to their insurance providers on their own behalf. Many of our patients are able to get partial or full reimbursement for their treatments, but coverage varies depending on your insurance plan, and we cannot guarantee reimbursement.
There is one exception to our direct-pay policy: We do bill auto insurance companies for auto accident claims if the patient can provide proof of approval from their auto insurance provider. If you’ve been in an auto accident and have received authorization for acupuncture treatment, we can work with your insurance company directly.
If you have any questions about our payment options or need assistance with a Super Bill, feel free to ask our staff.
